NT 6.0

Well its not as bad as I originally thought, now that I’ve gotten my DVD drive to work for apparently no reason what so ever. I am still in awe that I upgraded to the exact same version and now it works. Maybe the firmware had an error in it and I fixed it, but then why has it worked fine in XP and Linux. I don’t know, this is just a mystery to me. I fixed it. I fixed it. Nothing new their.

Once again I am the master of my domain. Literally because as it were I also got the laptop working. It was simple enough I just had to remove it from the domain and then set the gateway to the router restart connect back to the domain and walla it works as well. So now all is well and good in my home datacenter. My server is up and running and everything is working fantastic. Now the next challenge to get a remote client to join my domain.

I haven’t worked all the bugs out on how I’ll accomplish this but I have an idea. If I had a static IP it would be easy, just add my ip to the remote clients DNS server list. Then the remote client could easily join my server and have the advantages of being on my domain. No real advantage for them more for me and my need to have more users under my control and strict but stable guide lines.

Ask yourself, would you rather have a stable interface or the ability to go to any website you want and install any spyware you please. I don’t think so. You’d rather have a system administrator set rules for you on your computer so that you don’t mess it up.

Sony DRU-840a

Well I’ve searched and searched for a vista driver for my DVD-rw drive to try and get it to burn a DVD in Server 2008. I decided to give up and go buy a new one because it just didn’t seem to be compatible with the new os. Well I go to the store and what do I see, Sony DRU-840a Vista Ready. Well I believe I have found a solution. If I install the latest firmware that should put me on par with what is being sold in stores and have my dvd-rw working as expected.

Globalization

Posted in Uncategorized on November 25th, 2008 by Ronald Prettyman

You know the more I think about it, I just can’t seem to understand. Everything is changing and the one thing that needs to isn’t. Essentially we have modern criminal justice, more business, more university’s and a government based on roman democracy. Well it just doesn’t make since, we don’t have a free market, never have, between tariffs and subsidies you can hardly call it a “free” market by any since of the world. And again “Democracy” were not “free” by any means yet we lack any of the benefits of being a “nonfree” or “enslaved” nation.

Their is no structure to our economy, no structure to our workforce or education. Why, because we have an outdated system of governance. We need a better system. A socialist system, a system that is at least honest enough not to lie to us from birth. We are not free, we are not innocent we are all guilty of some crime in the eyes of big brother. The system is broken and needs to be fixed we need a socialist government that at least points us in the right direction.
Example

Billy, Billy’s handicapped Billy is utterly useless but for some reason we find it necessary to keep Billy alive at the cost of everyone else who is able bodied and works to get ahead in life. Billy plays PlayStation and relieves himself in public. Now why is Billy aloud to live? Why, because we have this ridiculous notion that people are equal, that everyone deserves to live, its the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard, in nature Billy would be killed. Can you imagine if Billy were to breed, what effects that would have on our gene pool.

Then we have John, Johns not a smart kid but he is really good at sports and is horrible at Academics, Johns parents are divorced and John will never amount to anything except a poor excuse of a convict. Why, because the system failed John, John could of been tested at a young age and been told, John when you grow up you will cut grass, you will graduate at 16 and begin life in the real world. But no, our Standardized testing is for Statistics it has no actual purpose.

Our system is entirely motivated by ones own pursuits and not society as a whole. We think and live for ourselves and expected to be lairs and thefts their is no trust their is no path to take except your own. This is not productive to society, we need to step up and take away free choose, people are stupid and greedy and have no real reason to have free choose. Free choose is the only crime I see. The majority of people are not bad people at their core. They are mealy misguided. Their is good reason we have so much crime so much waste. Those lucky enough to have the resources to choose their career base it on money not on what they would be best suited for.

Their is a reason our jobs are being out sourced. Americans are pathetic, our latest generation is the most self absorbed pile of trash. What is the future of this nation. Its not promising. In short I am sure you disagree, you like your vices you are enthralled by your dishonesty. So will anything come of this. Probably not.

Some people want to pursue their own happiness at others peoples expense, some people believe they are selfless as they go about getting their pity highs, and some of us, just want to watch everyone bury them selves in all the shit.

“Wish in one hand and shit in the other, see which one fills up faster.”

The big interview

Posted in Uncategorized on November 25th, 2008 by Ronald Prettyman

First big interview is coming up, Carnegie Mellon University. Here is hoping that I have the skills their looking for. I know that I possecess the ability to do what they require if not at this moment most defiantly before I start. I hope that I can get enough information from the interview to know what their using that I am unfamiliar with. Regardless I will at least gain a bit more knowledge into how other institutes conduct themselves.

It may just be that the industry has gotten so competitive that I might just have to lower my expectations and aim lower then where I left off. A little back tracking won’t kill me, at this point I’ll be happy to make enough money to keep the lights on. Things look like their getting worse so no telling what the future holds. The mystery of it is enticing, another adventure waits around the corner and I have to just see what is thrown at me next. Who knows I may just end up on a sandy beach by the end of year. I might just end up back in Miami soaking up the rays and waiting for the economy to pick back up. At least in Miami working for minimum wage isn’t all that bad, maybe I’ll go for California this time around, its warm their and well when your broke the last thing you want to see is snow, cause snow means its below freezing, below freezing means hypothermia and that’s just not fun.

At the very least I still have my health and the failures of others and lack of forethought on my part can’t hurt that just yet.

Windows Server 2008

Windows Server 2008

Well I’ve started testing out Windows Server 2008. Some continued education. Well I have to stay I like it so far. It really is Vista for Workstations. It works spectacular and I defiantly notice a great deal more stability then my experience with Vista last year.

But enough about my personal opinions. I setup a domain in Activie Directory, which was extremely easy it automatically setup my zones and reverse zones and everything with one restart(i know windows and their restarts) I was able to add the other systems on my network to the domain and start controlling my users names from a central server. Which is a nice feature for even a small network like my home network. I had some problems with getting Xp Pro to login though a wireless connection but I simply went into the Advanced setting and specified the domain suffix and that seemed to clear it up. My Windows Server 2003 laptop logged in fine though a wired connection. The next stage is going to be getting my Solaris tower to login if it is possible but I think it is.

Now I know what your thinking, Active Directory does more then centralize login information but at the moments that’s the only service I’m using it for. I will probably implement some more features later this weekend. I also see that Windows Server 2008 requires the use of IPv6, I was wondering when Windows would do that. I guess my old Trendnet router is starting to age, I’m hoping for a firmware update to allow static or even dynamic IPv6 support.

Enough blogging I have a good deal more to learn.

Video Collection

Posted in Uncategorized on November 15th, 2008 by Ronald Prettyman

Well I did it, I finally deleted my collection of boot leg movies. It cleared up 55 gigs of space. Which I more or less need for some of the projects I’m working on now. I haven’t actually watched any of the videos in years, just been carrying them over with each upgrade. I think my next big purchase is going to be two 500gig hard drives and i’ll setup some sort of software Raid configuration. Not sure yet still looking into to it. My current setup is just growing old, its more of a pain then anything to have separate partitons on a windows machine. At one time I had the different patitions setup for certain types of file but my computer needs have changed, mainly with switching my gaming to the xbox 360. Besides I think I have a major bottle neck using ide hard drives with a system designed for the speed of sata drives. I think my burner is about to beat the dust as well. I just hope I don’t find the need for more then 2 gigs of ram any time soon because I’m really not looking forward to my next mother board upgrade.

On a positive note, I don’t think I will max out the hardware points on XP 64 or 2003 Client any time soon, I’m not positive but I think the memory max is around 64gigs. What on earth could I use that for. Video editing, 3d editing, a massive database, either way I don’t think I’ll need that anytime soon.

I wonder if the software and hardware companies get together and try to figure out ways to make a simple program like word into such a resource hog. I mean I could run word on my old 486 and no matter how fast my system is it always takes a few moments to start the latest version of word. I’m going to guess that if your reading this you’ve seen the latest iteration of Microsoft Office, wow their graphics team must not have to take drug test. What on earth do such eye catching graphics for.

I think that is the reason vista has such higher system requirements and why everything run under vista has such high system requirements is just to support their stupid opacity windows.(which actually looks great on a gnome console where it just shows the desktop and not everything underneath it.)

Flash

Posted in Uncategorized on November 15th, 2008 by Ronald Prettyman

Well I’ve decided to take a break from my RHCE studies to learn more about Flash. I’ve started looking into doing more complex animations. I’ll probably incorporate them into my website if I see a use for them. I’m thinking of having a preliminary start page, one of those portal entry things. So I’ll just have to see how that goes. Well until we meet again I’m going to get back to my research.
